Minutes from July Meeting were amended to remove a typo and correct a domain address - approved as submitted with corrections.
DCM Report - Jeff was unable to attend the recent Area Committee meeting. The Area is still taking bids to host a January and March 06 assembly. Jeff would like District 17 to host an upcoming assembly and will continue investigating locations. He asked for our support and consent to bid. All agreed. He also stated that no district monies are involved, just one day of service opportunities for our groups.
Jeff also shared the following - For many reasons it took a long time for me to learn the service ropes. Once I realized that it was too difficult to pick up by osmosis once a month, I took the suggestion and read the service manual. Everything I need to know about the service structure is in there, including voting on issues that affect the fellowship as a whole. Reading it brought more value and meaning to my position as GSR for my home group. Also, the term "guardian of the traditions gave me additional drive to study the traditions and aid in answering questions with regard to GSO and any so called "violations of the traditions. I started to become the "go to guy in my home group for the 12 traditions and GSO type questions. My esteem, as to what I could bring to my group was bolstered.
The idea of a functioning district I also liken to the front line defense for GSO. I should be equipped enough to be able to answer some of the simple questions asked without much effort and the harder questions I can quickly refer to someone with more experience. Another suggestion, found in the description of a GSR in the service manual, is to read "AA Comes of Age. I began to realize the value of service from many perspectives, especially when I learned that what we are doing here is taking the place of our founders to advise the General Service Board how to act in serving the fellowship. Plus any delegate to the General Service conference has at one time or another been a GSR and been an Area Committee Member.
All this to say, I am available to answer questions with regard to your position as GSR or any other question about service… and if I don’t have the answer, I’ll find out. So please e-mail or call with any questions. No question can be too basic. Also, I suggest you read the service manual because it will increase your understanding of our process. Your commitment in representing your groups does require some effort… but I promise you the results of doing this kind of work will be evident in your personal walk of sobriety.
