DCM Report: Maureen
“I attended the Area elections and was once again amazed by the power of the 3rd Legacy procedure. It truly moves me when I see God’s will in the election process. District 17’s past DCM Jeff J. is our new Area 93 Delegate.
Michael and I will be going to Washington Mutual to exchange our signatures on the District checking account. Jeff will remain as the other account signer.
The bus bench PSA project is moving forward Lisa from District 1 has paid in full for the next six months. Laura was reviewing our options if we want to move our location. Our PSA is currently still at Laurel Canyon at Victory.
District 17 will be hopefully be co-hosting the May assembly with District 1. Michael and Randy will submit a bid at the January Assembly. We will be at the Jewish Community Center in Van Nuys.
Lastly I want to thank all of you for allowing me to serve as your DCM these past two years.
It was such an amazing experience and I am truly a more spiritually evolved person than I was two years ago.
Thank you for letting me to be of service.”
Alt. DCM Report: Michael
Reported on Area 93 Assembly held on Saturday, November 15, 2008 in Camarillo. Area 93 Delegate-Debbie J. introduced document from General Services on what GSO does provide to groups in light of the question at hand (input due January 30) regarding should GSO be funded solely from member contributions or continue to subsidized through literature sales to all sources. Also, workshops are being held within several districts toward discussion and forming an opinion.
Treasurer Report: Jeff began placing reserves away (3 months) for funding bus bench, $100/mo funding PRAASA; trying to get rid of the numbers and identifying the groups. Started the 7th tradition.
Area Standing Committee Reports:
Archives: Helen none. Dan-need group histories, long timer histories, district minutes and events, standing committee agendas and events, and any publications (books and pamphlets) that groups, districts and DCM may want to contribute. George went to Niagara Falls Archives Workshop., September 2009 Woodland Hills, docents needed for Area 93 repository; (Carl Biden passed away and donated to repository). Standing committee needs names for new archivist for next panel.
Treatment Facilities: Simon - needs of Bridging the Gap varies by District. Trying to get the program off the ground in the SFV. Spoke w Bob Fischer at SFVCO who’d be willing to coordinate databases, etc. for members once program is in place. SFV H&I already present. Careful to make sure not to “step on the toes” of SFV H&I. Concerns are that it would take a lot of people to get it off the ground (2-3 people per district in the SFV). Format of card to go into treatment facilities with and Area phone number on it for when they get out.
Literature/Audio Visual/Newsletter: Larry-“To Teens” pamphlet project. Sends A/V equipment to conventions. Also, looking to have regular commitment updating the Area 93 newsletter.
Public Information: Faith-much discussion about the Young People’s Video project. There is a flyer is available at aa.org with requirements. No videos are streaming yet. Videos submitted may be professionally enhanced to maintain anonymity.
Accessibility/Website: Paul-After consulting deaf alcoholics, the committee decided to go ahead with a “fully vetted” ASL translator or the visual portion of the ASL DVD of “A Teenager’s Decision.” Current AA translations for the deaf are simply translations the English (spoken/written) parts of the Big Book. ASL is a completely different language: neither spoken, heard, nor written. It is a unique language requiring special (fully vetted) translation. Most deaf alcoholics neither speak, hear, nor write a written language such as English or Spanish.
SFV Liaison: Paul-a decision was made to go ahead with the bus bench project.
Michael-Area 93 is in need of a new webmaster since Randy is going to be DCM.
Old Business:
District Web dude needed. Michael needs to rotate out as new DCM. The commitment entails posting the minutes and fliers regularly. Most important is keeping it current. Helps to know FrontPage or other web editing software. Raul has expressed interest.
