Minutes from December were approved with amendment of Treasurer’s report.

DCM Report – Maureen will attend a presentation given by District 1 on Bridging-the-Gap. This is an outreach program to extend the hand of AA to individuals just-released from prisons, hospitals and institutions.  Perhaps this is something District 17 can look into getting involved in.  January 21 the Area Assembly will be in Pismo Beach.

Old Business:

1.  Ad hoc committee report on Senior Centers/Libraries/Schools Book Placements:  With the departure of Nina, Steve needs help. Richard W. will pick up books.  Will find more places to donate to.  Steve will furnish a list to volunteers of where books were placed.  Since last meeting, 19 books were donated and one Big Book remains.  There are reserves to purchase more books. Jeff J. brought up the point that this is an “ad hoc” project, meaning that it does not necessarily need to continue once it has served its purpose. The district may want to consider dissolving it.

New Business:

1.      Michael and Karen will take over running the District 17 website as Jeff is now Area 93 chairman.  They will need Microsoft Front Page on their computers.

2.      We should consider other outreach projects the District could get involved in:

a.       New Parolee Orientation;  the commitment involves going to Cri Help one Thursday afternoon a month for 1 to 3 hours to represent the “Hand of AA” to people just out of jail or prison. AA pamphlets are handed out to those who are interested.  Should we stamp the pamphlets with Central Office plus the phone number ?

b.      Bridging the Gap, as mentioned in Maureen’s DCM report.

3.      How can we generate interest in GSR work?

a.       Tell your meetings without GSR’s about General Service and encourage them to get a GSR.

4.      Create a District 17 map.  Area 93 maps can be found at the Archives office in Oxnard.

5.      San Fernando Convention GSO meeting is at 11:30 on Saturday, February 3rd

a.       The convention founder will be a presenter.  Debbie J. and Jeff J. will also be present.

b.      Contact Nancy (818-769-2293) if you’re interested in being a volunteer at the convention.
