DCM Report: Michael F.
It’s District 17’s turn to host the GSO Meeting Panel and Information Table at the SFV Annual Convention. This is happening with Maureen’s guidance and Mark’s help (to discuss later in Agenda).
Mark and I attended the Area Committee Meeting in Goleta on Sunday, December 21, 2008. Reports were given by area officers and incoming/outgoing DCMs. The ACM Minutes will follow when approved. Points of interest for now are:
- Area 93 is going into its 9th year of service. Panel 59, Area 93’s 5th Panel.
- Round Table discussions are being planned for the January assembly to gather input from the fellowship respective to future support of GSO services, i.e., self-support only (financial participation from the membership) vs. subsidizing self-support with sales of literature.
- Call for panel speakers (5 to 7 minutes) for the PRASSA Pre-Conference in March. Topics will be formed soon. If you wish to participate on a panel, please let me know. Ken, our alternate delegate, is asking for 2 volunteers from each district.
- It appears that an Area 93 Ad hoc Committee will be formed to study a change in the frequency of area assemblies and area committee meetings. The committee will consider how to reduce the frequency of these gatherings and make recommendations to the area.
- Respective to hosting area assemblies, it appears both the difficulty in securing an available location and meeting the hosting criteria has resulted in a situation of not having any bids for the March pre-conference assembly at this ACM. Therefore, this information may not be available for the January assembly. Emergency provisions, as allowed by Area 93 Bylaws, were explained to allow the Chair to act in the best interest of the area in order to secure a location for the March assembly. There was a great deal of discussion as to the barriers encountered with the current process.
- Mark V and I will be attending the 4 Area DCM Share in Oceanside in February.
- Respective to the service of the Panel 57 Officers, we heard many expressions of gratitude.
- Confirmed service participation of our web dude, Raul.

Observed the 7th tradition. Michael suggested continued re-education on District 17 as a separate service entity for the 10% split. Work with new treasurer of your group.
Area Standing Committee Reports: based on next assembly. Try to find a committee and make a commitment. District 17 needs representation Grapevine/LaVina-DC?; Literature/Audio Visual/Newletter; Website for District 17 and Area93-Raul, Amanda-Randy will train.
Old Business
- Discussion on AA (GSO) self-support and literature sales (Michael) Larry had difficulty understanding the material prior to presentation to his group; Howard presenting for group conscience to his group; Helen made copies for her group, presented packet and link to other literature, and in 2 weeks a group conscience will be taken.
- District Web dude needed. Raul will be the new webmaster. Michael has rotated out as new DCM. The commitment entails posting the minutes and fliers regularly. Most important is keeping it current. Helps to know FrontPage or other web editing software.
New Business
- District 17 is hosting GSO Panel Meeting, SFV Convention-; Saturday, program presented; Announce at your meetings.
- GSO Information Table, SFV Convention- Mark passed-around a sign-up for table. Maureen, Mark, and Faith will gather literature for the table not to exceed $100. Suggested Xerox copies of handout of info on GSR, District, Area general service.
- Open Discussion…What’s going on at your meetings?
- Bridging the Gap ad hoc committee-Simon tabled to next meeting. 2 minute version – SFV H&I takes literature to locked facilities; BTG covers people released from treatment facilities contacting a central bank of phone numbers and volunteers would be contacted to go out on 12 step call to bring BTG people to meetings. SFV Central Office willing to do the phone bank BUT only if it will “pan out.”
- District 17 Goals?-tabled.
- Concept V presentation – David Right to appeal by minority view to protect against the uninformed majority. This is a healthy check in AA to protect us from ourselves.
