DCM Report: Maureen
I’m excited that the bus bench project is moving forward District 17’s location will be at the south east corner at Lauren Canyon and Victory. The other locations are south west corner Sepulveda and Vanowen; north east corner Desoto and Roscoe; north west corner Magnolia and Tujunga.
I attended the ACM in April and Michael and Paul attended with me. The Area 93 2009 Budget setting meeting will take place June 28th at the Archives Repository in Oxnard.
Debbie asked that when giving reports to your meetings to be very clear on what a District project is and what an Area project is and what the General Service Office is. Many people were confused on the opinion polls. Also to be clear that contributions sent to “Central Office” are not forwarded on to the other service entities. Contributions need to be sent individually.
Debbie also reminded us to remind out groups that the Young People’s video project is ongoing and the entry forms and guide lines are on AA.org.
Debbie also reminded us to remind our meetings about the Birthday envelopes and to explain them when giving our reports.
We also discussed if we should increase the mileage reimbursement and food allowance for the delegate and it was finally turned over to the finance committee. More will be revealed.
Joe V gave his report back on the very slow process of incorporating Bridging the Gap in California. H&I is handling lock down facilities as well as some treatment facilities. This situation needs to be handled very carefully as it’s a very sensitive issue.
George is looking for our meeting minutes and our Guide Lines and Policies for archives. Michael will down load these from the District web site onto a CD.
Thank you for letting me to be of service.

The District 17 Map and list has multiple uses.
· When our district GSR’s agree on content and format, I plan to post it on our District 17 website. This use is a point of information about District 17.
· Eventually, I plan to add all groups in our district in the first 4 columns. At a glance, we can tell which groups do not have GSR’s. Too, when a reasonable number of groups in our district are verified and entered on the list, we can create a percent participation statistic. We can then begin to have a tangible reference for our efforts to grow participation in General Service. We could come up with some reflective graphic -- like a thermometer -- to show growth. Now, we are at about 33 degrees (pretty chilly, huh!?).
· The last use I'm thinking of is two-fold. Mainly, it is used to acknowledge GSR’s who participate by showing up -- for monthly district meetings and area assemblies. Conversely, it shows when GSR’s do not attend these service gatherings. Some groups in our district may consider this as useful information when considering the value of their representation in General Service operations.
I understand how the last one can get a little sticky. Let me help by sharing a little on my viewpoint. Sometimes, with all the huma-huma to enlist new GSR’s, the participation of current GSR’s can get overlooked. Posting attendance is a way to confirm the commitment of GSR’s who show up for district meetings and area assemblies. We need to nurture current GSR’s to prevent loosing them, less any additions make for a wash and zero growth.
This next point of view is my opinion. Though I understand and enjoy such sage suggestions as -- Easy Does It, One Day At A Time and Group Consciousness -- I also understand and enjoy Committment. I know I need help with Committment, well, probably all of the time. One thing that helps me is a demonstration of Accountability, less I risk the roar of getting called on my crap by my sponsor or an AA member! Too, I believe that more acts demonstrating Accountability go a long way in helping the alcoholic who still suffers.
Hope this helps ...Michael-Dwayne
