2. PI work in San Fernando Valley- Bus Bench Query update- Karen said her group ( Winners Attitude) was against the bus bench ads voted 13-3 money could be better spent can't distinguish between advertisement and PSA- another worry is benches will be desecrated- the name of AA will suffer; Michael said his group ( Live and Let Live) said go for it; approved upon funding . Barry said his group ( Riverside speaker Meeting) had a mixed vote wanted to know what will it cost; anonymity is not a problem it is a public announcement/ not an advertisement . Maureen said we will know in December depending on what districts participate the cost is again We pay for 5 benches at $ 325 month then the 6th bench is free. Maureen said getting info out that AA exists- the people are anonymous AA as a whole is not anonymous- explained what the bus benches will do- in English and in Spanish- central office agreed to allow their phone number- said benches were the " best place to carry the message" lots of people sleep in parks or on benches ; what a great place to carry the message of AA . Shaun asked if he should ask his recovery home. Maureen said get a general consensus from groups as to how they feel about spending the money in this area. Jeff K. ALT from " Radford Hall Meetings" had a 50/50 asked to explain what public information is; promotion instead of attraction-again Maureen said we are not anonymous- the Area has approved this- so has AA world services in New York; produces public information so people can reach us- again members and fellowship are anonymous- AA is not. Steve asked if Area had to approve benches- Maureen said its only district 17- guidelines will come out of New York. Richard asked if there was a time commitment? and he broke down what it would cost monthly to groups if all participate; Maureen suggested if we are passionate about it- please visit PI meeting in Tehachapi. Dist 17 will be in conjunction to let there groups know where their contributions are going(.6 total districts) Maureen explained how the 4 districts will relate to Valley Central Office- because we will have the number listed. Dist 17 will be resp for $ 80/ month for 5 months.
