I was unable to attend the Delegate Day but hear it want well and Michael did a great job.

I visited the Jewish Community Center at their new location in Van Nuys for a potential site for the May 2009 assembly.  The place is perfect for an assembly - Lisa and I hope to leave this project for the incoming DCMs of our respective Districts to co-host this event.

Reminder our District elections are next month and Ken, the Area 93 Alternate Delegate will be here to conduct the elections for us.

I would like all of you to consider what positions you would like to stand for in District 17. The positions open with be:

DCM

Alt. DCM

District Secretary

District Treasurer

District Registrar

As well as the local committees

Thank you for letting me to be of service.

Alt. DCM Report: Michael

Delegate Day, 4 districts, Debbie J. reported on GS Conference April 2008, keynote speakers: real sense we are all just one of US.; Tamara asked all district DCMs how got into General Service; Michael against his will, “contrary action”, but one of the best things to keep me on the sober road.  A list was passed around to check 2008 attendance at District 17 meetings and Area 93 assemblies.  Two new GSRs introduced: Ramon and alternate GSR Robert, both from People in Progress.

Treasurer Report: Jeff submitted.  Nothing unusual reported.  This month issued a check for $671 from reserve for Pacific Regional Forum reimbursement.  Reviewed contributions from groups.

Area Standing Committee Reports:

Public Information:  Laura/Paul reported on Audio recording of A Teenager’s Decision by Laura Saturday, September 27.  This will be used for the signing portion to complete a DVD

Registration: Mark checked on GSR’s not yet receiving mail from GS NY.

SFV Liaison:  Paul SFV Convention, SCV Convention, SFV Central Office volunteer needs list for answering phones (12-step) and website sfvaa.org.

Old Business:

1.      Guide Lines and Policies District 17 proposed updates Tom brought copies.  Voting procedures, finance prudent reserve codification, hasn’t been updated since May 2006.

2.      Host Local Event/Workshop January ‘09 – update Michael, Paul and Mark: Haven’t heard back from Colfax church.  Need to contact.  Don’t want to conflict with SFV Convention last weekend of January ’09.  Suggest pursuing April.

3.      Discuss participating in local health fair – Laura hoping to call a couple hosp or schools and come back in Nov with one place that has a health fair.  Public access to AA literatures ie: Community Colleges, Street festivals, Chamber of Commerce-Valley Village, Studio City, NoHo, Sherman Oaks, etc.  YMCA, High Schools.

4.      Discussion on number of yearly Area Assemblies – Tom discussion from August Area 93 assembly floor re: reducing to 4 assemblies per year vs. currently 5.

New Business

  1. Co-host May 09 assembly with District 1 – Maureen (see report above)
  2. Concept IV presentation – Raul spoke on the history.  A beacon of early organization allowed trusties to have too much power financially, etc.  Tearing-up checks.  States organization as a “spiritual corporation” contrary to common corporate organizations (business, military, etc. top down authority).  So no “second-class” members, etc.  Care to who has votes and protections.  David volunteered to present Concept V next meeting.
  3. November District elections please consider what you can stand for.
  4. Open Discussion… What’s going on at your meetings?  Larry C., being a trusted servant to report back to your meeting re: money, completed changes, and represent them as you vote your conscience participating at upcoming assemblies as their trusted servant.

Birthdays/Good & Welfare: Laura (2 years) and Paul (8 years).
