DCM Report – Maureen:
I have been busy.
I attended the first Area Assembly of the New Year and New Panel in Pismo Beach on January 21st Michael, Karen, Ernie, Mark and Tom attended. It was a smooth changing of the guard and Jeff did a great job as Chairman. I was asked serve as the Alt. Finance Chair for the next two years. We voted on several items - financing the PRAASA Chair to attend the 07 event and to remove incorrect wordage in our G&P pertaining to those eligible to stand for officer positions in Area 93. This will be voted on again at the March assembly as any G&P changes require a vote at two consecutive assemblies. The May assembly will be held at Lake Isabella.
I also attended the San Fernando Valley Convention GSO panel this Saturday which was great. The 11pm time slot worked well for attendance as did the speaker form Arizona who was one of the original DCMs who began the Convention. Debbie and Jeff also spoke on being of service and how it enhances their sobriety.
I also served on the planning committee for the 4 Area DCM Share which took place yesterday in Orange Grove and included Area 5, 8 and 9. Michael was there for part of the day. It was comforting to learn that all districts face the same challenges in their efforts to “carry the message” and we exchanged some good ideas which I’ll share as we being our District out-reach programs.
As I stated in my e mail our Alternate Delegate, Alberto is looking for “presenters” for the two day pre-conference Assembly in March. I did one last year and it’s great. You will be given one of the topics that will be discussed at the NY Conference in April. You will do some research on the topic from whatever AA literature applies, and prepare a presentation to present to the Assembly. I believe they run from 7 – 10 minutes.
Thank you for allowing me to be of Service.
Alt DCM Report – Michael F. – Out of town for business
Treasurer Report – Richard W. - Treasury report was approved as submitted.
District 17 Minutes Feb 2007 cont’d
Archives - It was announced that George has been named the Area Archivist. We were reminded that the Area 93 Archives in Oxnard has a meeting on Saturday mornings @ 10am. Robert gave a thumb nail sketch of how the Archives Committee serves Area 93.
CPC/Treatment Facilities -: Mark reported on the January Area Assembly CPC/Treatment Facilities committee meeting. They discussed Parolee Orientation, taking Big Books and other literature to facilities (without interfering with H&I), “Bridging the Gap” (to be discussed in New Business). He attended this committee meeting as he felt it related to his position as the District 17 H&I Liaison.

Grapevine/La Vina – Karen would like to represent District 17 at the Grapevine Area 93 committee meetings. The committee is working on projects to raise Grapevine awareness. The project for the March assembly is decorating coffee cans to raise money for Grapevine subscriptions at meetings.

Old Business:
1. Ad-hoc report Senior Centers/Libraries/Schools: No Report
New Business:
1. District Election for Treasurer – After 6 years of continued service to District 17 as DCM, Guidelines and Policies representative and Treasurer, Richard Williams is hanging up his hat. Leslie volunteered her service and, with no others standing for office, is taking over the treasury commitment. Richard assured her, “Showing up is 99% of the job.”
2. “Bridging the Gap” - Maureen, Mark and Jeffrey attended the “Bridging the Gap” presentation in District 1. There is a definite need to get this worthwhile program started in the San Fernando Valley. This is a potential outreach project for District 17 to get involved in. It would be good to have a representative from each district. Bob Fisher is working on this from the SFV Central Office side and “Bridging the Gap” is on the ACM (Area Committee Meeting) agenda for discussion at an Area level. Right now a database is being created to match volunteers to take people just released from prison, institutions and recovery homes to a variety of 6 meetings. The goal is to get them connected to AA, but not sponsorship. This is a limited commitment. Currently, according to Michelle, the chair of the Lancaster program, there are more volunteers signing up than institutions. For further information, call Michelle @ 661-951-2182. Make announcements to your meetings and keep them updated.
3. Contacting District meetings - There are over 95 meetings registered in District 1 and approximately 20 have GSR’s. A pitch letter” is being written to be read at the end of
meetings that are “dark”. It was proposed we survey the area by each of us visiting one dark meeting a month.
4. Open Discussion – The Book project and the Bus Bench PSA project were explained to the new GSR’s. Robert will ask his group if the excess money his group donated to the Book project can be turned over to the Bus Bench project. The 49th ICYPAA will be August 31 – September 2 at the Bonaventure in downtown Los Angeles.
Good and Welfare: We sang Happy Birthday to Larry.
7:30 pm Meeting adjourned with responsibility declaration.
Next District meeting is Monday, March 5th.
